Project

Wales & West Utilities, distributors of gas throughout the Wales & South West of England, are currently undergoing a large project involving the construction of over 30 bases across the UK. After deciding to manage the project themselves as opposed to tendering, we  were enlisted to help their vision become reality.

For facilities manager Andy Smith, we were the perfect scale for what they wanted to achieve.  "From the start we found Sauro Architects very accommodating, and nothing was too much trouble. You pick up the phone and someone answers and you get to know everyone by name. I don't think we would have had that with a bigger organisation."

We were tasked with combining form and function; designing a beautiful building that still serves it's function as an office space with various utility areas. Achieving this involved deeply understanding the pitfalls and needs of the project throughout various consultations and site visits, something we endeavour to carry out on all commercial projects.

Being the first of many builds there was increased pressure to deliver this project well as it formed the basis and set momentum moving forward to the other buildings in the wider project. We focused this pressure to execute to a high level, with every detail being meticulously thought through. From invisible cable runs, discreet fire exits and safety lighting, A rating energy features & solar panels, beautiful signage and even using Cornish stone from the area we ensured this building set the perfect precedent.

What has resulted is a superb building that sits well within it's surroundings and improves the lives of  employees and the company overall. Built with the added pressure of being the first and in the midst of the pandemic, we are proud of what has been delivered and look forward to many successful builds to come.
